Metal vs Wood Portable Buildings

As far as portable buildings go, there are excellent ones out there made of either wood or metal, and you will find that any well-built, high-quality portable building will be a strong and durable choice, however they both have slight pros and cons worth considering before making a purchase. The decision you make really depends on your taste, your budget and your personal, specific needs, so let’s break this down in order to help you make the best selection.

Pros of metal buildings:

  1. They are less expensive than the ones made of wood, as metal is a cost-efficient material.
  2. They require little to almost no-maintenance and even if they could eventually rust in a rainy or snowy climate, repairing rusted or corroded areas is usually inexpensive and not time-consuming, which makes them easier and cheaper to maintain and repair than wood.
  3. You don’t have to worry about pest-control.
  4. They resist extreme temperatures.

Cons of metal buildings:

  1. They are durable enough, though not as durable as wood.
  2. Something minor but worth thinking about is the noise rain makes on metal roofs, so if you’re going to be spending a lot of time inside the portable building or if you place it near a bedroom, the noise could be very annoying.
  3. They are not resistant to extremely high winds

Pros of wooden buildings:

  1. Wooden buildings are very attractive and beautiful to look at.
  2. Wood is heavy, tough and strong and not likely to be pulled up by strong winds.
  3. They resist extreme temperatures.
  4. They are more durable than metal buildings.

Cons of wooden buildings:

  1. Wood does require maintenance, especially considering the location of the building in regards to moisture, foliage coverage and, of course, direct sun exposure.
  2. Wooden buildings tend to be more expensive.
  3. They require a little extra upkeep in terms of protection against dampness and bugs.

As you can see, the elements to consider when purchasing a portable building are not extreme and they are pretty balanced out. Also, as we mentioned earlier, whether you prefer a metal or a wooden portable building, purchasing them from a reliable manufacturer with high-quality standards will guarantee a long-lasting structure.
